See the HafenCity with the Elbphilharmonie, and the Speicherstadt, a UNESCO World Heritage district, with its canals (depending on the water level).
The maneuverability of the small ships gives you a really good overview of the structure and performance of the trading metropolis. Even the people of Hamburg notice again and again how amazingly quickly the image of the port changes.
