This tour will introduce you to Portuguese history's most notable and wealthy ages. Jerónimos is a monastery built on tax money from the Indian trade. Here lived poor monks who washed away the sins of sailors who came from abroad.

The audio narration starts in front of the church with a discussion about its history. You'll puzzle out the crowded biblical figures on the portal before you continue to the monastery. Inside, the tour is divided into the monastery and the church stories. Why did monastic orders have power in Portugal's kingdom? How come Jerónimos monks used this place?

You'll hear about Manueline architecture, notable Portuguese personalities buried here, and the royal family's history. You'll see stone carvings, monuments to prominent writers, and designs distinctive to very few buildings worldwide. The app will then guide you to the church to admire its structure which hides the tombs of Vasco da Gama and King Manuel I.
