Start your tour at the expansive Tucume Archaeological Complex, a site spanning over 200 hectares and boasting 26 monumental structures. These are complemented by lower rank buildings such as squares, walls, patios and canals, all of which reflect the planned growth and intricate social structure of Lambayeque. A visit to the complex's museum will give you a deeper understanding of life there in the past.
Next, the journey continues towards Lambayeque to explore the Royal Tombs Museum. This establishment was necessitated by the discovery of the Lord of Sipan, whose elaborate burial and apparent semi-divine status highlighted his significance. After meticulous rescue, investigation and restoration of all registered artefacts, the museum was constructed, making it a one-of-a-kind destination in South America.
Following a meal at a local restaurant, either El Cantaro or El Pacifico, the tour proceeds to the Huaca Rajada Archaeological Complex. This site is renowned for its massive mud pyramids that date back centuries. The complex gained prominence in 1987 when illegal excavations were discovered. What initially began as a protection plan culminated in the remarkable discovery of the tomb of the Lord of Sipans, one of Peru's most impressive pre-Columbian burials.
