Discover the Kontorhaus district in Hamburg’s southern Old Town during a private and guided walking tour.
The Kontorhaus district bears witness to economic growth at the beginning of the 20th century and the first separation of residential and commercial buildings. Admire its unique architecture and find out more about the Hanseatic merchant tradition, trade, and port economy.
Marvel at the Sprinkenhof, once the largest office building in Europe, and stop at the former Ballin House (today’s Messberghof) and admire some of the few remaining Old Hamburg townhouses from the 18th and 19th century. See the world-famous Chilehaus and learn more about the merchant Henry Brarenz or admire the motifs on the façade of the Asia Haus. Finally, stroll through the Laeiszhof, headquarters of the Laeisz shipping company, and see its neo-Gothic brick architecture, its poodle sculpture, and one of the last paternosters in Hamburg.
