What to expect
Situated in the Huangpu District of Shanghai, the Yu Garden stands as a testament to the rich history and culture of China. Constructed during the Jiajing and Wanli periods of the Ming Dynasty, this garden spans an impressive 30 acres and boasts a heritage spanning over 450 years. It is celebrated as one of the most famous gardens from the Ming Dynasty era in Shanghai, ranking first among the top five.
The Yu Garden was initially a private retreat created by Pan Yunduan for his father upon his retirement from official duties. Its design embodies the distinctive Jiangnan garden style, offering a glimpse into traditional Chinese culture and art.
Within its boundaries, you will find an extensive collection of cultural artefacts including ancient trees, traditional Ming and Qing furniture, and various artworks. These elements collectively reflect the depth and richness of traditional Chinese culture and art, making the Yu Garden not just a place of natural beauty but also a treasure trove of historical significance.
Important to know
Know in advance:
- You can choose between two admission times: the 9:00 timeslot allows you to enter the Yu Garden between 9:00 and 12:30; the 12:30 timeslot allows you to enter between 12:30 and 16:00
- The ticket is only valid on the selected date
- Reduced tickets are available on site for children under 18 years old and seniors aged 60 and over
- You'll receive a confirmation email with a QR code entry ticket after booking. Each QR code can only be used by one person
