This morning out packs in panoramic viewpoints, traditional villages and a tipple of the good stuff. You'll venture into the hills to visit Veprinac - a small village with a big reputation for Croatian culture and heritage. Take a step into the past at the Ethno Collection, and end the morning with a lesson in liquor production at a local craft distillery. Darko, one of our expert guides, says, 'Local poet Josip Stanić once wrote in his verses that Veprinac seems to almost touch the heavens, and when you are breathing in the fresh mountain air here, you'll see first hand what he meant by this.'
You'll start the day in Veprinac. Perched on top of a hill overlooking Kvarner Bay and the surrounding mountain ranges, the views are show-stopping. After grabbing some snaps, you'll head into the village for a spot of sightseeing. Martina, another guide of ours, says, 'We'll stop by St. Anne's church, once a private chapel belonging to a noble family. Here, you'll see hidden graffiti dating back to the 15th century, and find out what small animal played a huge part in the lives of the villagers back then.' It's off to the Ethno Collection next, where you'll see the former way of Croatian life through its artefacts, photographs, and exhibits.
Then comes the fun part. Learn all there is to know about crafting liquor at a local distillery, before ending the morning with a tasting session. Sip on a variety of local liquor, paired with snacks. It's worth getting off your sunbed for this one.
