Luberon markets and villages from Aix en Provence

Have a general overview of the 'Most Beautiful Villages in France' :

You will begin your day by walking through the most charming and traditional markets of Provence (depending on the day of your visit). The order of the visited sites will change accordingly.

Take time to stroll and explore:

  • on Tuesdays in Gordes, a picturesque hilltop dry stone-built village with its Renaissance-styled castle : only market day on tuesday spend time in the dry-stone built village. On the other days, a photo stop will be organized.
  • on Thursday in Roussillon, a colourful village with its ochre cliffs which houses are painted with ochre, once the biggest exporter of this natural pigment in the world.
  • on Fridays in Lourmarin, well-known for its 15th century Renaissance castle.
  • on Sundays only, stop at the market in l'Isle sur la Sorgue, also name as the The Venice of Provence and the capital of antique dealers and flea markets. The other days no stop.
  • on Saturdays only, stop at the market in the city of Apt famous for the candied-fruits production. The other days no stop.

For lunch, you will have free time to choose if you want to have some typical dish at a terrasse or explore the small village.

After this break, you will head to Fontaine de Vaucluse. There you can walk up to the cave where the impressive river Sorgues emerges.

If you visit from mid-June to mid-July only, you will the chance to admire the amazing lavender fields in full bloom at the 12th century Cistercian Senanque Abbey.
