The full horror of 20th century industrialised warfare was nowhere more intense that in the Somme in 1916. By the end of 1st July some 57,000 Commonwealth soldiers had become casualties, by the end of the offensive in November, more than 1 million soldiers had been wounded, captured or killed.
Come and join us for a day of remembrance and discover some of the areas which suffered severely in these violent and bloody battles of the Great War. You will start the day at the 1918 battlefields around Villers-Bretonneux and pay your respects at the Australian memorial. You will then be driven to the 1916 sites starting with the Lochnager Crater at La Boisselle, Pozières and the Thiepval Memorial to the 72,000 British and South African soldiers who were killed and have no known grave.
