Nat Geo Day Tour: Flavours of Corfu, Cook with Locals at an Organic Farm

Feel the soul of Corfu at Bioporos Organic Farm, situated on the banks of Korission lagoon. Your deep dive into Corfiot farming begins with an introduction to your hosts for the day and the true stars of the show: the farm's owners.First, you'll join the host's mother who will teach you how to make organic cosmetics, such as face masks, beeswax cream, and more. You'll use ingredients which you can find in your kitchen or garden back home, and take your creations with you at the end of the day.Next, prepare a traditional Corfiot pie, mix up your own tzatziki and knead bread. Your host will light the wood-burning oven and soon you can enjoy the aromas of the slow-cooked pie and bread you helped to prepare. While your lunch bakes, the owner himself will lead you through the farm, proudly showing off his collection of farming tools, his olive trees and bee hives. His tales illuminate the relationship between Corfu and olive farming, and his passion for regenerative agriculture shines through when he demonstrates how he promotes the conservation of endemic plant species. You'll also discover the history of this EU-protected lagoon and its impact on the local people, as well as details of the surrounding wildlife, rare flora and numerous bird species found here. After your trip around the farm, you'll savor lunch fresh from the oven, paired with a fresh salad from the farm's garden. For dessert, relax with a cup of coffee while you gaze over the idyllic scenery.

A great day out in some of Corfu's most beautiful spots. Tragic Empress Sisi fell in love with the island – and you'll see why on this adults-only tour laden with fishing harbours, a deserted village, a fortress and amazing scenery. Eleni, one of our guides, says of her favourite stop, ‘I've lived here all my life – and yet the first time I visited Old Perithia, I thought that I was in heaven. That's how special it is.'You won't have long to wait to discover it, but first up is Bella Vista. Sites & Bites: Corfu Old Town, Greek doughnuts and ouzo

Corfu's cuisine, bustling town square and old fortress are the highlights of this half-day guided walking tour. You'll start at the Old Fortress of Corfu, a Venetian fortress dating back to the early 15th century, with some eye-catching views over the town. Eleni, one of our expert local guides, says “this fortress gives you a peek into Corfu's rich history. Keep an eye out for its two peaks – Castel a Terra, or Castle near the Land, and Castel a Mare, which means Castle by the Sea in English. They really show off the military defence architecture from the Venetian era.”Next, you'll stroll through the old town's winding alleyways, known as kantounia, towards Greece's largest plaza – Spianada Square. As you wander between the pastel-coloured buildings, you'll make a few stops to sample local treats, like ouzo and kumquat liqueurs. Plus, you'll learn how olive oil is produced before a tasting session. Then, you'll get to sample another Greek treat – loukoumades. These golden, crispy doughnuts are soaked in warm honey and are often sprinkled with cinnamon and nuts – you'll see why this sweet snack is a favourite in the Mediterranean. After your tasting sessions, you'll have some free time to check out the old town at your own pace. There are plenty of cafes and tavernas if you want to recharge before heading back to your accommodation, or you can shop for souvenirs in some of the local stores – you'll find olive oil products, liqueurs, and handcrafted leather goods on offer.

Read on to discover the best activities and excursions you can do to make the most of your time in Corfu.

Top 6 things to do in Corfu

1. Explore the streets of Corfu Town

Known to locals as Kerkyra, this UNESCO-listed town is where you can immerse yourself in a vibrant cocktail of Venetian, French, and Greek influences that give colour to the island. It’s a hub of good food and wine – dive into Corfiot cuisine with local Greek salads and gyros on the menu. Head to the Venetian fortresses, such as the Old and New Fort, to snap some pics, and explore other top spots including churches, the French-era Liston Promenade, and the Mon Repos Estate, offering a glimpse into the island's past.

2. Time travel with a touch of glam at Achilleion Palace

Built in 1890 as a retreat for the former Empress of Austria, Sissy, Achilleion Palace is a neoclassical marvel boasting stunning architecture, lush gardens – and A-Class views of the island. Her love for ancient Greece and mythology is reflected in its design, and you can’t miss the iconic Achilles statue overlooking the Ionian. Marvel at the imperial history of the palace and enjoy a glimpse of grandeur in Corfu.

3. Head up high to Paleokastritas Monastery

Situated on the northwestern side of the island, the hilltop monastery is a must when on the island. Take a colourful headscarf and get ready to explore its nooks and crannies. 5. Soak up the love at Sidari Love Canal

Located in the north of the island in Sidari – one of Corfu’s top areas for nightlife – is where you’ll find the natural sandstone rocks of the Canal d’Amour. This unique geological formation creates a natural fjord-like canal in the sea and according to local legend, couples who swim here will stay in love forever. A top tip is to head here to watch the sunset. It’ll blow you away.

6. Enjoy a splash at Aqualand Corfu Water Park

With 51 slides, pools and games – all ages will have a blast here.
