Trizonia may be the only inhabited island in the Gulf of Corinth, but with virtually no cars and only a handful of locals, it's like a throwback to another era. On this half-day tour, you'll head out by boat to explore the island, as well as a foray into the old town of Nafpaktos, known for its Venetian heritage. Athanasios, one of our expert local guides, says 'The close-knit community of inhabitants on Trizonia prefer the quieter side of life. But, with that being said, they welcome visitors with open arms to see their little slice of paradise'.
You'll start the morning in Nafpaktos - historically known as Lepanto. Its walled harbour and hilltop Venetian castle are the star attractions here. Kinga, another of our expert local guides, says 'The walls stand as a reminder of one of the most important naval battles in history that took place here, five centuries ago'. Nowadays, colourful boats take the moorings of the quaint harbour, with trendy tavernas and shops dotted along the time-worn cobbled alleys.
Then, you'll head to board the boat and sail across to Trizonia. This laid-back oasis is about as close to a car-free utopia as you can get, and serves up an abundance of postcard-worthy beaches, olive groves and dreamy walking trails. You'll have time here at your disposal to sightsee, swim or simply relax under the warm Mediterranean sun. Drift through the sleepy streets, unwind on one of the sandy stretches, or even mingle with the islanders – they've got time, and they're not shy about sharing it.
