Secret Epirus

Ancient Greek myths come to life during this River Acheron valley tour. You'll journey to the beautiful fishing village of Ammoudia for a cruise up this legendary river – known as the Styx in classical times – and on to village of Gliki and the famous Acheron springs.

The Acheron was known to the ancients as the Styx, and it was one of the five rivers of the underworld. It was into its waters that the infant Achilles was dipped by the heel and thus became one of the immortals. Fringed by trees and ranging in colour from emerald green to tropical turquoise, the river flows into the amazing Ammoudia Bay.

Here, you'll board a riverboat for a cruise, following a route taken by mythical heroes such as Hercules and Ulysses. We then head inland to the village of Glyki for a traditional Greek lunch at a riverside tavern. In the afternoon, a guided ramble takes you to the Acheron Springs.
