Discover the extraordinary collection of sacred art in the Museo Diocesano di Cortona, which houses masterpieces by Pietro Lorenzetti, Beato Angelico, Luca Signorelli, Giuseppe Maria Crespi and precious artefacts dating from the 13th to the 19th century.
Located in the wonderful complex of the Gesù Church, the Museum was founded after World War II to preserve precious works of sacred art from churches, convents and oratories in Cortona and its diocese.
Be enchanted by Beato Angelico's famous altarpiece, The Annunciation, a masterpiece of early Renaissance Italian painting and one of the highlights of the collection along with nine panels by the Cortonese painter Luca Signorelli, including the Lamentation over the Dead Christ.
Not to be missed is the collection of liturgical furnishings and jewellery that attest to Cortona's former prestige, such as the precious Passerini Vestment, an extraordinary vestment made for Cardinal Silvio Passerini to designs by Raffaellino del Garbo and Andrea del Sarto.
