As the second tallest mountain in Europe, Monte Rosa will have you captivated from the moment you set eyes on it. After driving up Anzasca Valley, you'll arrive in the remote village of Macugnaga. At 1,300 metres above sea level, it is like something out of Heidi – typical Alpine buildings, a flower-filled piazza, a 12th-century stone church and panoramic views of the surrounding peaks.
And for the clearest mountain air, let the Belvedere chairlift whisk you up Monte Rosa to the Belvedere Glacier where you'll see over the Alps and glaciers. Alternatively, you can take the cable car up Monte Moro to see Monte Rosa.
