You'll start this guided walking tour discovering the Barisano and Caveoso Sassi of Matera and learning more about their history and architecture, before reaching the top of the hill and visit the Apulian Romanesque cathedral.
You'll explore the two Baroque churches along the way up to the Vittorio Veneto Square, walking down the street of the Beccherie, which once was the commercial heart of the city. You'll admire the nineteenth-century fountain wanted by king Ferdinand II of the Two Sicilies and enoy the view of the Barisano Sasso. Enter its alleys and descend to a traditional cave house to see how pooreer people used to live until the mid-50s. You'll continue the tour with a visit of the Caveoso Sasso and its rupestrian church, which was completely carved into the rock and still is rich in iconographic evidences from the X-XIII centuries.
Last but not least, you'll end the guided tour with a tasting of some typical local products.
