What to expect

Join this tour to travel back in time to old-world Tokyo and let your guide take you to 100+-year-old family-owned businesses. Uncover charming shops and taste some tasty food, all while supporting unique Japanese crafts, food and culture!

Start off at Ningyocho, a district known for its old traditions and, as you’ll discover right away, tasty treats. The smell of cinnamon will lead us to our first stop, a shop that specializes in Japanese sweets. Try out a true Tokyo specialty, small sponge cakes with sweet red bean filling called Ningyoyaki cakes. Next, you'll visit a shop that specializes in senbei (rice crackers), a favorite in many Japanese households. But you're not done yet! Next up, you’ll stop at a local tenugui shop that woven hand towels depicting different traditional Japanese scenes. You'll then head to one of the eight temples in Ningyocho. You’ll visit a shrine where virtue, longevity, learning, and wealth are worshipped. You can offer a prayer here, and wash a coin to ensure a prosperous life.

Once you’ve exhausted Ningyocho, you’ll visit another nearby neighborhood, Nihonbashi. The district of Nihonbashi was a hub for merchants during the Edo period. Visit an old-fashioned stationery shop that was established in 1912. You’ll get to browse through the display of calligraphy brushes, inks, traditional paints, handmade greeting cards, and little dolls.

To take your experience to the next level you can choose to have a private guide, just for you and your group! Simply select the option you prefer at checkout.
