Embark on an intimate small group tour, limited to 10 travellers, led by a knowledgeable sumo expert guide. This immersive experience is divided into two key parts: exploring sumo-related historical landmarks and witnessing live bouts in the sumo arena, accompanied by real-time commentary from your guide.
Begin with a walking tour around Ryogoku, a town steeped in sumo history. Here, you'll observe sumo stables outside, where wrestlers live and train. Your guide will enrich your understanding of this traditional sport as you visit numerous must-see spots related to sumo. This knowledge will enhance your enjoyment when you later watch the bouts in the arena.
The second part of the tour focuses on viewing the sumo matches. Each participant will receive a pamphlet featuring photos and profiles of the wrestlers, translated into English. As you watch the fights unfold, your guide will provide insights into each wrestler's background and style. You'll also receive cheering goods for a particular wrestler, adding another layer of excitement to the viewing experience. For those who prefer to focus solely on the sumo viewing, there is an option to join just this part of the tour.
To round off the day, there's an optional dinner at a local restaurant specialising in chanko-nabe. This nutrient-rich dish forms the cornerstone of a sumo wrestler’s diet, designed to help them gain weight and build muscle. It's the ideal way to fully embrace the sumo culture and conclude your immersive tour.
