What to expect
The waters of the Straits of Gibraltar off the coast of Tarifa are among the most dolphin-rich in Europe. On this excursion, a marine biologist will teach you about the different species in advance of a two-hour dolphin watching cruise. You'll also enjoy a walking tour of Tarifa and some free time to explore this kite surfers' paradise.
It all kicks off with a walking tour of laidback Tarifa. Kite surfers come from all over the world to ride the waves at the spot where the Atlantic and Mediterranean meet.
Then stroll over to the marine mammal research institute, where a marine biologist will reveal the dolphin species living off Tarifa – and how to identify them on your cruise. Spend two hours at sea admiring these friendly creatures in their wild habitat. You might also spot a whale or two. Finish the excursion with a few hours' free time exploring Tarifa at your leisure. The total tour duration will be around six hours.

And to top it off, you'll sail around the Bay of Gibraltar for the chance to spot dolphins. Rosa, one of our expert local guides, says, ‘Gibraltar's monkeys are the most accommodating wildlife around. Unlike dolphins, you don't have to search for them – they come looking for you, especially if you're holding food.'The fun kicks off with a boat trip in the bay to look out for dolphins. Three species – bottlenose, common and striped – are known to frolic in these waters. Then, back on dry land, head for a guided minibus tour of the Rock of Gibraltar, which juts 426 metres above the Mediterranean. You'll stop at Europa Point, where there are many famous monuments, a mosque and a historic Christian shrine.
