The historic Yeguada de la Cartuja stud farm is a one of the blue riband places to watch majestic Carthusian horses perform. It's located in a former monastery near Jerez, and you'll tour the grounds and paddocks before witnessing free-running colts, a dressage show and much more.
Carthusian monks began breeding horses in the 15th century and to this day, this strain of horse is considered one of the most thoroughbred. Once you reach Yeguada de la Cartuja, you'll learn all about how the horses' genetic heritage is preserved and about their beauty and strength throughout centuries.
You'll tour the complex, including the stallion yard, harness room, coach houses and barns before watching a show featuring free-running colts and classical dressage in an awe-inspiring exhibition of horsemanship and elegance. All of this coupled with the beautiful surroundings. A great insight into the international prestige of the Carthusian horse and local pride in the breed.
