To experience one at sea is the icing on the cake.'You'll sail past San Antonio's famous Sunset Strip bars and toast the Ibiza sunset while you take in the radiant setting. Sip on your glass of cava while taking it all in. Aina says, ‘With a local guide onboard, you'll find out some interesting insights about the island while you take in the scenery. Ibiza Island Tour with Can Marca Caves, Las Salinas and Portinatx
Excursions & day trips

Ibiza Island Tour with Can Marca Caves, Las Salinas and Portinatx

This tour shines the spotlight on all four corners of the island. Calling by Las Salinas, Portinatx and San Miguel, you'll also stop by the party town of San Antonio or upscale Santa Eulalia. Lucia, one of our expert local guides, says, ‘Ibiza once relied on salt production, and while the salt pans are still in use, they are now protected as part of a much larger nature reserve in order to safeguard the wildlife – in particular the many species of birds that use the area as a staging post as they migrate from Africa to Europe. Look out for the distinctive pink flamingos wading through the ponds.'In the morning, you'll pass by the snowy-white salt flats of Las Salinas. A huge patchwork of wetlands, it was the isle's chief earner for over 2,000 years. In the cutesy village of San Jose, you can grab a coffee in the town square or visit the attention-grabbing 18th century fortress church. The village retains a traditional Ibizan vibe, and enjoys a scenic location on the foothills of Sa Talaia, Ibiza's tallest mountain, which reaches 475 metres. After a short photo stop in San Antonio or Santa Eulalia – depending on your departure point – you'll have some free time to potter around the pretty coastal resort of Portinatx and choose from one of the local restaurants for a typical lunch. Your final stop is the dinky port of San Miguel, clustered around its narrow cove, and the Caves of Can Marca. A tour of the caves rounds off with a short sound and light show before heading back to resort.

Excursions & day trips

Ibiza Hippy Market Visit with a Local Guide

The Es Cana Hippy Market is the stuff of legend. Swing back to the Sixties at this treasure trove of cubby-hole stalls, where your batik fantasies clash in a cloud of incense. Ibiza's number one and original hippy market, it has refused to move with the times. The stands are piled high with authentic and retro items, everything from kaleidoscope kaftans to beads and bangles. Silke, one of our expert local guides, says, ‘The market is full of creative artisans and artistes, not just selling their wares but performing music. It's an eclectic and electric experience for all the family.'A wide variety of products are on offer, from handstitched leather bags and a huge range of jewellery right through to homewares such as hand-woven baskets and art prints. Clothing is also highly sought-after, and there's no shortage of cool, beach-ready apparel. Prices are reasonable for such unique and often handcrafted items. Silke adds, ‘In 1973, the hotel invited hippy artisans to sell their wares to guests. Today, there are more than 450 stalls. You'll find stands selling white dresses and shirts – the typical Adlib Ibiza style, which was created during the hippy movement and is still very popular.'If you fancy just sitting back to soak up the atmosphere, there's food and drink for all tastes in the foodie areas. There are even activities for the kids and a playground for your little ones. Even if you're eyeing not buying, the psychedelic time travel is worth the visit alone.

Evening Tour of Ibiza Town with Las Dalias Hippy Market

The old walled fortress perched at the top of Ibiza town is an atmospheric tangle of cobbled lanes normally only accessible by foot. Known as Dalt Vila, it's mostly residential but as you explore it, you'll discover the cultural sights tucked away along the narrow streets. After time exploring the old town, you'll head to the renowned Las Dalias Hippy Market. Martina, one of our expert local guides, says, ‘Back in 1985 the market started with just five stalls. Fast forward to 2023, its 38th year, and though it has expanded to 250 stalls, it retains its distinct hippie charm more than ever.'First up, stroll around Dalt Vila, enclosed by monumental defensive walls with seven bastions, each offering a unique viewpoint of the city and the sea. Located at the highest point of Dalt Vila, the 13th-century Cathedral of Santa Maria offers more great views of Ibiza Town. It's a vibrant and elegant area lined with waterfront cafés, bars and restaurants. After a couple of hours in the old town, you'll head for the famous Las Dalias Hippy Market. More of an institution than a market, it's a real potpourri of artisans and artists who design, make and sell their own handicrafts. What's more, a beachside lunch is included. Andrea, one of our expert local guides, says, ‘Whenever I come to Formentera, I am amazed at how the bright colours bring this island to life. And then, when I visit La Mola lighthouse, I agree with Jules Verne when he described in his book, Off on a Comet, that this is the place where the universe and paradise meet.'Blemish-free beaches, sleepy harbour towns, and a go-slow pace as standard – Formentera may only be a stone's throw from Ibiza, but it's a million miles away in personality. Things to do in Ibiza

Ibiza, the most party-loving island in the Balearics, is famous for its lively nightlife. But in addition to trendy nightclubs, this Mediterranean paradise seduces travellers with its rich history, its emblematic hippy markets, its picturesque villages and its blissful beaches. As if that wasn't enough, the wonderful sunsets and fabulous food are other great attractions. With so much to see and do, Ibiza is an ideal destination whether you're travelling alone, or with family or friends. Read on to find out which activities are the must-do's.

The six best activities and excursions in Ibiza

1. Explore Dalt Vila

Dalt Vila (Upper Town) is the historic, walled area of the island's capital. Strolling through its cobbled streets, lined with boutiques, quaint restaurants, art galleries and whitewashed houses adorned with colourful bougainvillea is a must-do activity in Ibiza. Pass through the Portal de ses Taules, and enjoy exploring this interesting fortified area, which has also been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Head to the highest part, where the cathedral of Santa María La Mayor is located, and admire the sublime views over the city and the sea.

2. Visit Ibiza's picturesque villages

Venture into the heart of Ibiza and visit Santa Gertrudis, a cute village famous for its relaxed atmosphere, craft shops and delicious local food. Es Cubells, a tiny village perched on the edge of a high cliff, is also worth a visit, not least for the spectacular views of the Mediterranean. Other towns not to be missed are Santa Eulària des Riu, Sant Carles de Peralta and Santa Agnés de Corona.

3. Go shopping at a hippy market

Hippy markets are, without a doubt, one of Ibiza's most popular attractions. As well as shopping and enjoying the bohemian atmosphere, many of them have live performances and food stalls. Punta Arabí, in Es Canar, is the largest and oldest street market on the island. Every Wednesday, on its more than 500 stalls you will find handmade clothes, costume jewellery, natural cosmetics and a host of original products. The Dalias market is another classic in Ibiza. Every Saturday, a multitude of artisans fill the gardens of Sant Carles, in the north of the island, with colour. In addition, during the summer months, a night market is also held on Sundays, Mondays and Tuesdays.

4. Enjoy a boat trip

Hop aboard a catamaran and sail along the coast of Ibiza while you relax and soak up the sun. Some excursions go as far as the small island of Espalmador, a unique opportunity to swim off its beautiful beaches. Boat trips to the islet of Es Vedra are also popular. If you enjoy water sports, be sure to book a cruise that includes the chance to try one of the water sports, such as paddle surfing or snorkeling. On the other hand, Ibiza is famous for its spectacular sunsets, so sunset cruises and boat trips are a favorite among travellers.

5. Marvel at the landscapes of the Ses Salines Nature Park

This huge protected area, in addition to its dazzling beaches, is famous for its spectacular ponds and huge mountains of white salt. Its beauty is such that nowadays, many excursions around the island include a stop here. During your visit, you can learn about the importance of salt production to the island's economy for centuries, and discover why its wetlands are a paradise for birdwatchers.

6. Take a trip to Formentera

The island of Formentera is just a short distance from Ibiza, so it's no wonder it's one of the most popular excursions. After a short ferry ride, you can immerse yourself in the laid-back atmosphere of this small island. If you not only want to enjoy the beautiful beaches but also want to explore some of the highlights, we recommend a trip to Sant Francesc, the picturesque capital of Formentera. The spectacular views from Es Mirador and the iconic lighthouse of La Mola are also a must-see.

Plan your trip to Ibiza

When's the best time to visit Ibiza?

Like Mallorca, temperatures in Ibiza are warm in summer and mild in winter, while rainfall is concentrated mainly in the months of October and November. In July and August, temperatures can reach 30 °C during the day. During this time, the island is full of visitors, eager to go to the beach and enjoy the vibrant Ibizan atmosphere. The second half of June and the first half of September also tend to be quite crowded, so if you want to visit the island at a leisurely pace, it's best to go in shoulder season. The opening and closing parties of the big nightclubs usually take place in March and October, which is a good time to enjoy the nightlife in Ibiza.

How many days should I spend in Ibiza?

A long weekend is enough to relax on one of the island's wonderful beaches and enjoy a night out. But if you want to explore the different beaches and coves of Ibiza, and have enough time to discover some of its most spectacular spots, such as Dalt Vila or the Ses Salines natural park, the ideal thing to do is to stay at least a week. You can also take the opportunity to go shopping in the famous hippy markets or take a trip to Formentera.

What are the best beaches in Ibiza?

As well as its vibrant nightlife, Ibiza is famous for its spectacular beaches. So, if you have the time, we recommend you visit as many as you can. If you like beaches set in stunning natural surroundings, Cala Salada and Cala Saladeta will not disappoint. The beaches of Conta and cala Bassa are equally popular, while cala d'Hort offers beautiful views of the islet of Es Vedrá. Meanwhile, Playa d'en Bossa is perfect for those looking for a beach with all kinds of services and a good party atmosphere. And finally, the most glamorous beach on the island is Playa de las Salinas, frequented by celebrities and well-known personalities.
