What to expect

Uncover Istanbul's Fener-Balat district, a neighborhood where traditional vibes mingle with a hip and contemporary scene. Led by your guide, a specialist in local history and culture, you’ll begin your tour at the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate, home of the Ecumenical Patriarchate. This opportunity offers an insight into the city's Christian Orthodox past.

You'll then stop outside the famous Greek School, Ozel Fener Rum Lisesi. Founded in 1454, this institution still educates students today and is Turkey's oldest and most prestigious Greek Orthodox school. An architectural wonder, the school’s red-brick facade is a mix of Byzantine and Ottoman influences, adorned with intricate detailing and arched windows.

Wander through Balat’s vibrant neighborhood famous for its cobblestone streets, pastel-coloured houses and design boutique shops. Embrace the area’s history-infused atmosphere before heading to the hip Balart Art House and joining a workshop where you’ll paint models of these famous houses, ideal for an original souvenir.

Sit down for a tasty lunch where you’ll get to try Mantı, Balat’s local speciality. Mantı is a type of boiled dumpling known as 'Turkish Ravioli', made with fresh local ingredients.

Finish your tour at the remarkable St. Stephen's Church, considered the largest prefabricated cast iron structure in the world. Step into this Gothic Revival building and admire its eye-catching interior where gilded iron embellishments and imposing columns await.
