Full-day 4x4 tour of Boa Vista’s northern villages with lunch
Excursions & day trips

Boa Vista - Full-day 4x4 tour of Boa Vista’s northern villages with lunch

There's no shortage of great views in Boa Vista, and this 4x4 tour shows you just how photogenic the island is. You'll discover the shipwreck at Cabo Santa Maria, visit Fundo das Figueiras, stop to sample local food in Rabil and visit a goat farm and local Local Biodiversity centre, too. Stephane, one of our local guides, says, ‘The shipwreck is one of Boa Vista's most iconic sights. When the ship ran aground in 1968 the crew escaped unharmed. Strong tugs were sent from neighbouring islands to try to move the ship, but it was stuck fast. It took nearly a year to unload the cargo and take it by mule to Sal Rei.'We'll kick off in true Boa Vista style, travelling by 4x4 to Rabil, where we'll try some local delicacies and have a look around the village. Next, we'll make our way to the shipwreck at Cabo Santa Maria, where the rusting hulk of a Spanish cargo ship still sits where it ran aground over 50 years ago. It's a striking contrast to the natural beauty of the beach, and you'll get some great photos.A stop at the colourful village of Bofareira follows, where you'll call in at a goat farm to watch local cheese in production. You'll get to try some, too. Next, you'll head for Fundo das Figueiras village for a lunch made from locally sourced ingredients in a family-owned restaurant. In the afternoon, there's some free time before a visit to a soap-making project ran by the Association of Northern Woman – an organisation specialising in equality. What to see in Cape Verde

Cape Verde is an archipelago made up of ten volcanic islands and is quickly becoming a top tourist spot. Each island has its own unique charm and tells a part of the country’s rich history, where different cultures meet. Famous for its vibrant music scene, serene beaches, and wild landscapes, Cape Verde is the perfect destination for those seeking a relaxing vacation and for those who love to explore new places and fully immerse themselves in the local culture. Grab your hat, sunscreen, and comfy shoes – and get ready for a vacation that’s a bit out of the ordinary in this amazing destination.

The 6 best things to do in Cape Verde 1. Relax on the Island of Sal

Sal is one of the most popular spots in Cape Verde, and it’s easy to see why. With miles of sandy beaches, clear blue sea, and sunshine all year round, it’s the ideal destination for sunbathing and total relaxation. Don’t miss a visit to the salt mines of Pedra de Lume, the fishing village of Santa Maria, and Shark Bay, where you can see lemon sharks up close in their natural habitat.

2. Explore the landscapes of Boa Vista

Another favorite among holidaymakers, Boa Vista offers a stunning variety of landscapes. From Atalanta Beach with its famous shipwreck to the white sand dunes of the Viana Desert, the island is perfect for those with a sense of adventure. There are many excursion options available, from 4x4 tours to catamaran cruises, and even scenic horseback rides on the beach. There’s no way you’ll get bored on Boa Vista.

3. Discover the culture of Mindelo

São Vicente island isn’t overrun by tourists, which makes it a great place to get a glimpse of local culture. Mindelo, the capital, is considered the country's cultural heart and is famous for its lively Carnival. It’s also the birthplace of the legendary singer Cesária Évora. The charming historic center has pastel-coloured houses, the most important port in the archipelago, and several attractions to visit. Be sure to check out the Belem Tower, the old presidential palace, and the many churches.

4. Visit the unspoiled Santo Antão

Santo Antão is green and mountainous, a very different island from its neighbours, making it a paradise for trekking and outdoor activities. Some must-see spots include the lush Ribeira do Paúl valley, one of the country’s most beautiful landscapes, and the fairy-tale village of Fontainhas, perched on the mountainside. It’s also worth visiting a distillery to taste grogue – a local spirit made from sugar cane, and hiking in the mountains of Ribeira Grande.

5. Go snorkelling

Exploring underwater in Cape Verde is absolutely worth it thanks to the diverse and colorful marine life around the archipelago. Dive in or snorkel to see what lies beneath the surface – think vibrant coral reefs, various species of sea turtles, 20 different types of cetaceans, and over 60 kinds of sharks and rays. Sal and Boa Vista are top spots for snorkelling, but if you’d rather stay dry, hop on a glass-bottom boat tour to take in all the underwater wonders without getting wet.

6. Trek on Fogo

Fogo Island is steeped in Cape Verdean culture, from its streets to its bars and local hangouts. The island’s star attraction is its active volcano, which gives Fogo its unique shape. It’s perfect for trekking and exploring wild landscapes. The must-do hike is the climb to the volcano’s peak, reaching 2,829 meters. For a safe experience, our advice is to hire a local guide.
