Book your tickets to the Stibbert Museum in Florence and discover about 50.000 objects including weapons and armors, costumes, paintings, tapestries, furniture and works of applied art on display in the elegant mansion of the Italo-British gentleman Frederick Stibbert.
His father Thomas was a colonel of the Coldstream Guards, and his grandfather Giles had been Governor of Bengal, in India. The museum's extraordinary collection is the result of the original nucleus left by Friederick and increased by later additions and donations.
Stibbert ended up transforming his home into a museum that documents the areas in which changes in taste and the development of techniques stimulated the creation of art objects. When he died, the museum became a foundation according to his last will.
Frederick Stibbert made numerous changes to his house during his lifetime, adding new rooms and engaging the Florentine architect Giuseppe Poggi to transform the gardens from a simple Italian garden to a delightful romantic English garden, complete with caves and fountains, temples, and a greenhouse.
