This event is a contemporary reenactment of a historical occasion dating back to March 5, 1500. On this day, Lord Ouchi Yoshinori hosted Ashikaga Yoshinobu, the 10th Shogun of the Muromachi Shogunate, treating him to an extravagant feast - the largest of the Middle Ages. As part of this experience, you'll wear original Muromachi style costumes and join a procession of around 20 members, representing the entourage of the former shogun and Ouchi clan. The march begins at Nakaotei in Yamaguchi City and ends at the Ouchi clan's building site (Ryufukuji Temple), covering a distance of roughly 1 km through the historically rich Odono area. One of the guests will even have the chance to play the role of the shogun, riding on a white horse.
After the parade, the tour will move to the beautiful Sansuien Garden in the Yuda Onsen area. Here, you'll be treated to traditional Yamaguchi entertainment (koto kumika or kyogen), just as it was enjoyed back in the day. You'll also savour an 'Ouchi gozen' meal, a faithful recreation of the cuisine served by the Ouchi lord to former Shogun Ashikaga. Historical records indicate that over 110 dishes were served at this grand feast, and you'll have the opportunity to sample a selection of these. This experience allows you to fully appreciate the medieval Ouchi culture, immersively stepping into the shoes of a shogun for a day.
