Charm of Holland: Volendam, Edam, Marken and Zaanse Schans day trip with lunch

Scenic landscapes dotted with windmills, picturesque canals, villages with charming streets, locals dressed in traditional costumes, tasty Dutch specialties, and much more awaits you on your full day, all-inclusive excursion to Holland’s most authentic villages.

TOUR DETAILS

Depart from Amsterdam and start a scenic drive through the beautiful countryside of the Netherlands. Your first stop is Marken, a small fishing town renowned for preserving traditional Dutch culture. Your guide takes you on a walking tour through the charming streets, sharing with you the history of this special place. The tour even includes a visit to a wooden shoemaker, where you can see a craftsman busy at work, demonstrating the fine skill of wooden shoemaking.

Be welcomed onboard the Marken Express as you continue your journey to Volendam. But this is no ordinary boat ride! On this tour, you will be treated to a cup of coffee and a tasty pastry (included in the tour price). Enjoy this relaxing ride and the beautiful view of the Ijssel lake. Upon arrival in Volendam, you have free time to explore this Dutch fishing village, browse the shops, or even take a picture of yourself in traditional Volendam costume. Meet your group again for a delicious lunch at a restaurant along the dike (also included).

Your next stop is a gem in the heart of North Holland. Perhaps you have heard of this special place and maybe you have even eaten the cheese that comes from here? The little town of Edam is famous for its cheese, which has been enjoyed around the world for centuries. As a special treat included in this tour, you will be taken for a cheese tasting, so you can savor the flavor of Edam. Not only is Edam famous for cheese, it also has a rich history as a former shipyard and is home to one of the Netherlands´ largest churches, the "Grote Kerk". Walk the cobblestone streets and gaze upon the quaint homes and bridges along Edam´s canals. It´s like taking a stroll through a Dutch postcard.

From Edam, continue the scenic countryside drive until you arrive at Zaanse Schans, with its magnificent collection of historic windmills which have been preserved since the 18th and 19th centuries. The area also has picturesque homes, wooden barns and scenic meadows for you to see. This tour includes a special visit to one of the windmills, where you can explore the inside and discover the importance of this Dutch icon.

Zaanse Schans completes your authentic Dutch excursion and you will be then taken back to Amsterdam, content with experiences, memories and nostalgia.
