What to expect

Explore Wai-O-Tapu Thermal Wonderland and Rotorua on a full-day trip departing from your hotel in Auckland. Your journey starts with a scenic two-hour drive through the Waikato region, leading to a brief stopover in Tirau, known for its corrugated iron sculptures and small-town charm. This is an ideal opportunity to stretch your legs, grab a coffee, and snap photos of the iconic dog and sheep-shaped buildings.

The trip continues towards Wai-O-Tapu, with a pit-stop at Rotorua to pick up additional travellers. Upon arrival at Wai-O-Tapu, you'll witness the daily eruption of Lady Knox Geyser, which reaches impressive heights of 20 metres. The tour then delves into the geothermal wonders of Wai-O-Tapu, featuring the Champagne Pool, Artist’s Palette, Devil’s Bath, and bubbling mud pools. You will have ample time to wander the trails and absorb the volcanic landscapes.

Following this, there's an opportunity to refuel with lunch at the Wai-O-Tapu Café (at your own expense) before embarking on a highlights tour of Rotorua. The return journey to Auckland includes a short break at Mercer by the Waikato River before arriving back in Auckland CBD around 6 pm.
