What to expect

The tour begins with a journey through the city's main tourist attractions, showcasing Trujillo's colonial history and enviable architectural heritage. Marvel at the beautifully preserved buildings and mansions from bygone eras as you explore the city.

Your first stop is a panoramic view of the Santa Clara and El Carmen churches, both boasting their respective closing convents that have stood the test of time. From there, stroll through the Main Square, taking in the San Francisco church en route. The square offers a splendid view of the Cathedral, constructed between 1647 and 1666. This principal church houses an impressive collection of art from the Cusqueña and Quiteña School.

Continue your journey to the House of Emancipation, where Peru's independence was first declared on December 29, 1820. Now serving as a museum, it provides a fascinating insight into the country's past. Next, visit Casa Calonge or Casona Urqueaga, a residence that once hosted Simon Bolivar during his stay in Peru. Today, it holds a collection of archaeological and colonial artefacts, including Bolivar's desk.

Conclude your tour at the Museum of Archaeology and History of the National University of Trujillo. With over 10,000 exhibits spread across 6 permanent rooms, it showcases the development of pre-Hispanic cultures on Peru's north coast and other changing archaeological events in its 4 temporary rooms. After this enlightening journey into the past, you will be returned to your hotel.
