The trail starts on the south coast of the island of São Miguel, in the parish of Água D'Alto. You'll start the trail through pastures, where you can see different types of vegetation, such as cryptomeria and conteiras. As climbing up, you'll enjoy panoramic views of the first town on the island of São Miguel, Vila Franca do Campo, known for its islet.
Next, you'll pass the levada de água, with its reflections of the vegetation. It has been used since ancient times to transport and consume water.
At the end of the climb, marvel at the endemic vegetation, such as the heather, the majestic mountains and their surroundings. You'll have lunch by the lake while enjoying the clean, crystal-clear water of one of Portugal's nature reserves. Finally, you'll have a steep descent, where you can contemplate the hydrangeas and the view of the island's south coast.
At the end of the day, there will be the possibility of a stroll through Vila Franca do Campo, where you can also visit the local dessert factory.
