Dive into the heart of Christmas cheer with this day out in Teguise. Browse the stalls at the bustling Teguise market – the biggest outdoor bazaar in the Canaries — see the traditional nativity scene and round off with a performance of dance and music from a maritime group. Maria, one of our local experts, says, 'Christmas is a time that brings everyone together, and this tour is perfect to connect with the local community. Join us as we immerse ourselves in the holiday season, blending the festive magic with culture and tradition'.
Located in the heart of the island, Teguise used to be Lanzarote's capital and is still famed for its Sunday morning stall-fest, which draws flocks of visitors from all over the island. You'll be able to wander around under your own steam, working through the treasure chest of stalls. Cue tables creaking with intricate Canarian lacework, foodstuffs, hand-made leather and all sorts of jewellery, paintings and handicrafts. There's also a nativity scene to see.
Afterwards, you'll join your guide to visit the impressive Monumento al Campesino — a masterpiece in honour of farmers, created from the island's very own artist, Cesar Manrique. Then, sit back and watch a vibrant performance steeped in tradition from a local maritime group — Parranda los Buches. Unique to Lanzarote, you'll see first-hand their cultural significance, with traditional costumes, masks, music and dancing. And to top it off, you won't see a woolly jumper in sight — what's not to love?
