What to expect

Jodensavanna is just about an hour away from Paramaribo on the right bank of the Suriname River. This is a short time to travel for an otherworldly experience of a former Jewish settlement. You'll visit the ruins of the oldest Jewish synagogue on the American continent that are still visible, as well as the cemetery. Passing by several indigenous villages and crossing the river at the town of Carolina, you'll marvel. Plus, at the Overbridge Resort, lunch is served on the nature spot in which you can relax or swim -all in one day.

After pick up, you'll go to the historical site is named after the Jews who fled the Inquisition in Europe around 1650 and settled in this savannah area. See the hill that offered views of the surrounding plantations and hear about the two water sources present, one of which was said to have medicinal effects. Increase your knowledge about the plantations that were there, among other things, sugar cane and their Biblical names such as Hebron and Bersaba.

You'll travel via the Afobakaweg, to Jodensavanna. Along the way, passing several indigenous villages and crossing the river at the town of Carolina. The guide tells you curious stories about the famous and rich past of the once-prosperous plantation. Visit the old cemetery and the remaining ruins. After Jodensavanna, the tour continues to the Overbridge Resort, where lunch is served on a spot where you can relax or swim to end the day.
