Embark on a winter journey to Arashiyama, a harmonious blend of history, culture, and natural beauty. This district is home to ancient temples such as Tenryu-ji and the Bamboo Grove Path, offering a peaceful escape throughout the year.

Take a stroll across the snow-drenched Togetsukyo bridge, with serene views of the surrounding mountains. Continue along the Bamboo Grove Path, a 500m winter walk through a silver-white Zen landscape of snow-covered bamboo. The rustling of leaves underfoot, one of Japan's 100 preserved sounds, adds to the tranquillity of this scene. Then, pay a visit to Nonomiya Shrine, a winter sanctuary known for relationship prayers.

Your journey continues to Miyama's thatched-roof village. The Kitayama-style houses boast distinctive architectural features, creating a fairy-tale setting complete with a red mailbox and "Chigi" and "Yukiwari" elements. Capture the beauty of Chiji Hachimangu Shrine's lanterns glowing against the snow. The trip also includes a snow lantern making experience, adding a personal touch to your winter adventure.

Snow Lantern Festival in Miyama's Thatched Village takes place between January 25th and February 1st
